Author Guidelines

This journal provides immediate open access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public promotes greater democratization of knowledge worldwide.

Only original, unpublished works that are not under review for publication in another journal will be accepted for publication.

Manuscripts may be written in Portuguese.

The following articles are accepted:

• By PhD holders and PhD candidates;
• By master's degree holders and master's students accompanied by a PhD holder;
• By undergraduate students accompanied by a PhD holder.

Articles that do not include PhD holders or PhD candidates among their authors may also be considered for acceptance. However, such submissions will require an individualized assessment by the editorial team and the Editor-in-Chief.

Articles must be submitted electronically, following the steps of the system designed to assist in the editing of scientific journals at each stage of the editorial process.

The publication of articles is subject to prior approval by the journal's Editorial Committee. After this stage, manuscripts will be submitted for evaluation by at least two external reviewers.

Final acceptance of articles depends on the following criteria:

• Recommendation of the reviewers;
• Completion of the necessary revisions by the author(s), when required;
• Approval by the Editorial Committee, whose decision will result in one of three possible outcomes:
  1. Accept;
  2. Accept with revisions;
  3. Reject.

• The voluntary submission of any manuscript automatically implies the full transfer of copyright to Faculdade Católica do Rio Grande do Norte.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Formatting: The manuscript must be prepared using Microsoft Word (DOCX) or a compatible program, and charts must be prepared using software compatible with Windows, such as Excel. Images must be submitted in the following formats: Figures (GIF) and Photos (JPEG), with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. The manuscript must contain a maximum of 17 pages, formatted on A4 paper, with 1.0 line spacing (single), using Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri font, normal style, size 12, and paragraphs indented by 1.25 cm. All margins must be 2.5 cm. Case reports and short communications must contain a maximum of 3 pages, including tables and figures.

File size: The manuscript must not exceed 2.0 MB.

Organization: A Scientific Article must be organized into: title, author name(s), abstract in Portuguese, keywords, title in English, abstract, keywords, introduction, literature review, methodology, results and discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments (optional), and references. A Theoretical Essay and Pedagogical Experience must be organized into: title, author name(s), abstract, keywords, title in English, abstract, keywords, introduction, textual development (to be structured according to the analysis of each subject), conclusion, acknowledgments (optional), and references.

Title: must be written in uppercase, bold, centered on the page, with a maximum of 14 words, and without abbreviations. The titles of the other sections of the manuscript (abstract, introduction, literature review, methodology, results and discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments, and references) must be written in uppercase, bold, and left-aligned.

A maximum of 5 (five) authors per submitted article will be accepted. We emphasize that, except under special circumstances, additional authors may be included upon presentation of appropriate justification. The justification must be attached at the time of submission under “Supplementary Documents” so that the Editorial Committee can conduct the appropriate assessment.

If this requirement is not met, the submission of an article with more than 5 (five) authors will not be accepted.

** Changes to the names of authors will not be permitted a posteriori.

Abstract: minimum of 150 and maximum of 250 words.

Keywords: The first letter must be capitalized. There must be a minimum of three and a maximum of five keywords, which must not appear in the title and must be separated by periods.

Introduction: may contain recent citations related to the subject addressed in the research. It must provide readers with the contextual information necessary to understand the study and the reasons why the authors conducted the data collection. The Introduction must answer the question: what question/problem was studied? In some cases, the theoretical framework may be included in this section.

Materials and Methods: must contain essential information that enables the research to be reproduced. Important information includes the location, study period, research classification/design, research ethics, among others.

Results and Discussion (if applicable): the results obtained must be discussed and interpreted in light of the literature. Tables, charts, and figures may be presented to display the results.

Conclusion(s): must be written as continuous prose, without subsections or bullet points, and must address the objectives of the study.

Acknowledgments (if applicable): immediately after the conclusions, acknowledgments may be given to individuals or institutions, clearly indicating the reasons for acknowledging them.

Tables: must always be presented in portrait orientation. They must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals at the top. Do not use vertical lines. Horizontal lines should be used to separate the title from the header and the header from the content, as well as one line at the bottom of the table. Each item of data must occupy a distinct cell. Do not use bold or uppercase letters in the header. It is recommended that tables be 8.2 cm wide, not exceeding 17 cm. All tables must use font size 10 and single spacing.

Figures: must always be presented in portrait orientation. Charts, photographs, or drawings shall be identified under the general designation Figure, followed by consecutive Arabic numbering and a caption below the figure. Graphics must be prepared using software compatible with Microsoft Windows. The resolution must be of the highest quality, with at least 300 dpi. Figures should be 8.5 cm wide, not exceeding 17 cm. The font used must be Times New Roman, size 10, and bold type must not be used for axis labels. The axis lines must have a thickness of 1.5 mm and be black. Tables and Figures must be inserted immediately after their first citation in the text.

• Citation format: follow ABNT NBR 10520/2023.

Reference format: follow ABNT NBR 6023/2018. 60% OF THE TOTAL REFERENCES MUST COME FROM INDEXED SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS WITH A PUBLICATION DATE WITHIN THE LAST 10 YEARS.

Use of Artificial Intelligence in Research

• When Artificial Intelligence tools are used for data collection or analysis, or for the production of images, graphs, or other content incorporated into the manuscript, authors must clearly disclose their use in the Methods section or an equivalent section.
• The statement should, where applicable, identify the tool or model used, its version, and the date of use, as well as describe how the tool was employed and which content or results generated by it were effectively incorporated into the work.
• This information is intended to ensure transparency in the research process, reproducibility of procedures, and appropriate assessment of the scientific and ethical integrity of the use of Artificial Intelligence.
